The honest take
What the plan doesn't tell you
• Pine is a soft wood that splits easily. You must pre-drill every screw hole, especially near the ends of boards, to prevent the wood from cracking.
• Keeping the leg and apron assembly perfectly square will be your biggest challenge. Use a large framing square and clamps to hold pieces steady before driving any screws.
• Without pocket holes or other joinery, parts will want to walk or shift as you drive the screws. Clamp everything down securely.
• Do not skip the wood glue. For this type of construction, the screws are just acting as clamps while the glue provides the majority of the joint’s long-term strength.
This plan has a major contradiction, listing 'pocket screws' for a 'No Pocket Holes' project. Assuming it uses only wood screws as the primary joinery, you absolutely must use wood glue on every joint for the table to have lasting strength. Relying on screws alone will create weak joints that will loosen over time. The provided orientation guidance on all 7 steps is a very helpful feature for a beginner, but the lack of any dimensions is a critical flaw you'll need to solve yourself.

Model coverage 90% of this design resolved to a load path down to the ground in our model (9/10 surfaces have load path to ground). Parts outside that path were checked for their own strength but not for what they carry.
The structural reality. We checked the part that works hardest here — the pine side apron — as a loaded beam over its real working span. Under a realistic in-use load it barely flexes — well within furniture limits, deflecting only about 1/681 of its span, with bending stress at roughly 47% of what the wood allows. In short, it should feel firm and stay that way.
Sound for normal use — just don’t overload it. Our conservative estimate puts the safe working load at ~300 lbs — enough for everyday meals and projects — even someone perching on the edge. Real-world strength depends just as much on assembly: glue every joint, keep the frame square, and drive your fasteners fully home.

Build tips
Before you build
- After applying glue, use clamps to pull the aprons tight to the legs before you pre-drill and drive your screws. This prevents gaps.
- Check for square after every single corner is assembled. It's much easier to fix a small error early than a big one later.
- When attaching the tabletop, use screws that are short enough that they won't poke through the top surface. Measure twice.
